Silent Movie Reflection
Over the course of the past couple of weeks, we worked on creating a silent movie. At first, our progress was a bit slow, but once we found a good idea to work with, we made some solid progress. We did well with choosing roles for each person that would match with their personality. Another thing we did well with was timing our actions to the music. I feel that the music that was playing seemed to match the mood of what was going on with the mood of the notes very well. I also feel that we did well with coming up with a good story line. Our plot was funny and it wasn’t confusing. One thing that we could have done better would’ve been actually following the schedule we set for ourselves. We had a tendency to get a bit distracted in class, so it took longer to create the movie than it should have. We also struggled a lot with the editing process. Since we did not know how to use iMovie, we had to figure the steps out as we went. Another thing I feel that I struggled with was making a smooth transition between being calm and happy to being angry. It seems like a pretty sudden switch when I watched myself again. I do think that I did better with this than I was doing at first, but it definitely could use even more improvement. As a group, we all improved greatly on our acting abilities. Jenna really got to show her strength as a physical actress, while Caroline had great facial expressions. I also believe we became closer as a class, because we got to witness each other being a little ridiculous at times. Whenever any of a us made a mistake, we would all be supportive and just laugh it off. We even made a bit of an inside joke out of one mistake that we made, where Jenna and I made the bowl fall to the ground and shatter. I think that having comfort with you classmates and/ or cast mates definitely helps with putting together a great performance no matter what you are doing. Overall, this was a not only a really fun process, but also one that I learned a lot from. It really helped me realize the necessity for over acting in a silent Movie, since the audience needs time to process what is happening. This process helped me learn most of all to get even more comfortable with my acting abilities as well as helped me get to know my classmates a little better.
