A Bit About Me
Hello! My name is Julia Shatalov, and I'm a freshman this year. I'm also a day student. It's been a little while since I've done much acting, beyond the skits my friends and I like to make up. The last time I was in a play was in 5th with Honk! Jr. I live in Cheshire and went to Dodd for middle school, where I participated in chorus and cross country. In 8th grade, I tried out Glee club, where we sang a capella, and I absolutely loved it.
One interesting thing about me is that I am a cyclist. I do mostly criterium racing, which is where we have a track of about half a mile to as long as 2 miles and we race around it as many times as possible in a set amount of time. Other forms of racing are time trial (TT) and point-to-point. In a time trial, each racer is sent off 30 seconds apart and they are supposed to go as hard as possible for a set distance. Whoever has the fastest time at the end wins. Meanwhile, point-to-point racing is the simplest form. Everyone is sent off at once and whoever cross the finish line first wins. I love biking so much because of the thrill of the sport. There is definitely a danger aspect involved, due to how close together everyone in the pelaton (main group of riders drafting off of one another) is. If one person goes down, there is often a domino effect. I happened to have experienced said domino effect last summer, when the person in front of me took a corner too hard and their tires slid out. I hit their wheel and went flying across the pavement. Fortunately, I just had a bunch of painful scrapes (we call it road rash) and large bruises. Unfortunately, my bike got pretty messed up and I could barely finish the race on it. I ended up having to take it to the shop before it could really be ridden again. Here is a picture of me and a lot of my closer biker friends at the end of a bike camp we participated in:
A final interesting thing about me is that I love traveling. I have been to Canada, Mexico, Dominican Republic, and Russia, as well as various states within the US. My favorite trip was probably the one I took to Canada. We visited Montreal for 2 1/2 days and Mont-Tremblant for 3 days. I loved spending time in the small mountain village, which becomes a ski resort in the winter. The view was beautiful. The best part was when I got to go see the Ironman finish chute, as I am a triathlete and hope to complete one myself when I get older.
I am taking this class because I am very interested in theatre, but it's been a few year since I last did any sort theatre activity. I'm hoping to learn a bit more about acting, as well as build some confidence for the real world. I also believe that I will be able to learn some great public speaking skills if I take

Another interesting thing about me is that I am a HUGE fan of musical theatre. I have never been able to go watch a broadway show, but I have listened to the soundtracks of Dear Evan Hansen, Come From Away, Hamilton, Be More Chill, and In the Heights on repeat. My favorite soundtrack is most likely the one from Dear Evan Hansen because of how relatable it is.
