Monologue Character Building

When my character, Megan's monologue occurs, she is attempting to talk her teacher out of giving her detention. The reason Megan is being given detention in the first place is because she was talking too much during class. The detention is going to be in the library, which is a place where being quiet is required, making it a fitting punishment for a talker. During the monologue, it is mentioned that Megan's dad yells at her for talking so much, which may suggest that her family finds her annoying as well. It also show that there may be a strained family relationship, as her dad is resorting to yelling rather than simply ignoring her or asking to stop in a gentler way. The character does not seem to talk because she dislikes school, though. This is shown through her mentioning that she finds the subject material very interesting and that the reason she talks so much in class is because she wants to discuss it further. Monologue Learning

This week, I learned a lot about monologues and what makes a good one. Going into this, I knew very little about monologues and had had almost no experience with them. I believe I did fairly well on the voice part of the monologue, partially because it relates to my home life a little bit. I learned that the monologue will always look more natural if you are able to use your hands (not hold a paper) and that different monologues call for varying levels of movement, depending on what character personality you are trying to portray. For me, the blocking aspect of it was a bit difficult. I had no idea what would look natural to the audience, so I tried to just move the way I think I would if ...

Romeo and Juliet Review

Romeo and Juliet Review On Friday night, September 1st, we visited Edgerton Park in New Haven to view the Shakespeare play, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. The play was about two families in Verona, Italy who are enemies (the Montagues and the Capulets) and their constant hatred for each other. Except for the bond between the Montagues only son, Romeo, and the Capulet's daughter, Juliet. The two "star-crossed lovers" marry in secret not long after meeting each other at a feast hosted by Juliet's father in order to allow her to meet county Paris. Later, a brawl breaks out in the street, killing Romeo's friend Mercutio and Juliet's kinsman, Tybalt. This greatly affects both families, resulting in Romeo's banishment. It's also part of the reason Capulet decides to marry Juliet off to county Paris. Not wanting to do so, Juliet takes a sleeping potion that will make it appear that she was dead. When Romeo discovers she is dead, not having known Juliet...
